![]() ![]() After collapsing Outline view to show only the level you are trying to sort, select your list and click the Home tab on the Word Ribbon. As long as each entry in your list is at the same level, you can use this trick successfully. In Word, the default configuration is to have each heading style represent a level in an outline, so Heading 1 is Level 1, Heading 2 is Level 2, etc. Notice that I have collapsed the view to show only text in Heading 2 style or higher. Figure B shows the unsorted list in Outline view. ![]() Unfortunately, Outline view is not normally on the Quick Access Toolbar so you will have to navigate to the View tab on the Word Ribbon to find it. For the example, I am using the Heading 2 style. The first thing you need to do is select the items in your list and apply a Heading style.
